"Infinitum Nimbus Nebula"
2011 ~ Michael C. Turner ~ Galactic Visions Space Art

Nebulae in space, like clouds seen from a planet's surface, can stimulate the imagination thereby creating diverse imagery of familiar objects as well as concepts. Many nebulae are recognized and given common names based upon such imagery. Nebulae are essentially clouds of dust and gas in space and many are, in fact, stellar wombs giving birth to those wondrous orbs of gas known as stars.
"Infinitum Nimbus Nebula" gives the illusion of towering Nimbus clouds illuminated at sunset creating a dramatic light and silhouette display above a terrestrial world.

Wow, had no idea you could create this kind of look with acrylics. It is beautiful to say the least. Love the colors and the concept of mixing space with a sunset. I've got similar concepts stuck in my head but I have yet to acquire the skill needed to express them. How long did this take you? I can only imagine a lot of work went into it?

Greetings,

Thank you for your kind comments.  It is actually a rather involved process using gel medium and a drying retarder to create layers  of paint effects.  This is somewhat similar to modern digital layers albeit, it does require the artist to actually use real brushes to apply real paint and, of course, the proper techniques to achieve the desired effects.  It isn't a process one masters without a great deal of experience and failed attempts.  Infinitum Nimbus Nebula is a large painting (60 x 84") and I spent well over 100 hours to complete it.  I appreciate you interest in my art.

Kind regard,

Michael C. Turner

Oh, you know, when I see something beautiful (and in our times it is hard to find something great on Deviantart, you surely know it) it is hard not to comment it :)

Sorry I havn't been commenting for a while. I've been pretty busy lately. I see you have too with all the deviations I'm seeing in my message box.
Of all of them, this one caught my attention first. I just love the color scemem you chose for this one. I think you've come a long way with the traditional painting. There's a very vibrant feeling about this one that is so photorealistic, I at first thought it was a digital one. I'm not sure there's anything I can say about it that is in need of improvement. I'd definitely say this is the best I've seen from you yet. ^_^ Very well done.

Greetings,

Thank you for your kind comment. This is one of my traditional acrylic using bristle brushes. The effects and color depth were obtained using acrylic gel glazing techniques.
